Password security holds great importance for all types of businesses. If cyber hackers steal a company’s passwords, they may be able to gain access to confidential data or use customers’ details for illegal purposes. To improve your company’s password security, read the following tips:

1. Set up strict policies for changing passwords regularly

Passwords should be changed at least once every three months or after a defined amount of time. As a business owner, it is your responsibility to enforce a policy to guide your staff. This is especially important when an employee leaves the company. The password of any accounts they had access to must be reset immediately.

2. Use email encryption

To protect private data and passwords from hackers, you should consider email encryption so that only certain users can read the confidential email messages. Depending on the level of security you need, there are several email encryption methods you can use. For instance, it is possible to buy software that will plug in to your email, or you could install an email certificate for your employees to be able to decrypt the messages they receive by using a private key. Alternatively, you can use a third-party email encryption service

3. Teach your staff to avoid cyber attacks

An employee can unknowingly click on unsolicited email attachments and reveal sensitive data and all their passwords to a hacker, or share passwords with his or her colleagues. Not everyone who works in a company knows how risky it can be to leave passwords where they are easily accessible or share them on another system. However, these situations can be avoided if you, as a business owner, provide adequate training and guidance to your staff.

To protect sensitive data, it is imperative for businesses to stay vigilant about their online security. By creating strong passwords and changing them regularly, you can create an effective barrier against Web intruders and fraudsters.
